Dave Jennings

Dave is the Australian one. His career started at the  Parkes Radio-Telescope in Australia, where he learnt the delights of PDP-11's and Fortran, while having lots of fun writing assembler code to drive a 1500 tonne dish (ask him about the feedback loop error sometime).

After that Dave then worked for two years writing the avionics systems for the F-111 fighter aircraft in sunny Los Angeles before becoming the first technical hire at Play.com. Dave wrote everything from their warehouse inventory system, credit card processing and consumer web systems in a series of very late nights. Play.com went on to become the second largest online retailer in the UK, which is quite a lot of retailing.

After Play.com Dave was CTO and Chief Architect for Tigerex, an international equity trading platform, then moving on to become Director of Data Infrastructure at the MVNO Sonopia, working closely with Jane and Roger in the Ukraine. Dave was Sonopias first "man on the ground" in Ukraine, and responsible for most of the snow clearing and office hunting.

More recently AmbientIndustries found Dave at Yahoo working in their Geo Technologies Group, where he was responsible for C++ development on Linux and BSD platforms. We cajoled him into joining us by writing him love letters about Python and PostGIS. Thus he is now responsible for all of our clever server stuff which we're not talking about yet.

Dave likes bikes, swimming, skiing and talks too much about Emacs.
